Lands of History, Prehistory and Memory
These many layers of heritage inspired Corinne and Romain HELLY to revive this vineyard by turning toward a responsible and sustainable approach to viticulture.
This intimate vineyard of 2.68 hectares produces around 10,000 bottles, made from Merlot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, currently available as rosé and red wines.
Its exceptional location, between the Pont d’Arc—one of only two natural arches in the world carved by a river—and the Chauvet Cave, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014, naturally leads to a thoughtful approach to agriculture and the humility to leave the lightest possible footprint on this remarkable land.
Current Composition of the Estate
1.60 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, of which 10% were planted between 1986 and 1987.
The remaining vines were planted between 2012 and 2013.
1.10 hectares of Merlot Noir.
The oldest vines were planted between 1975 and 1976 and today represent about 5% of the surface dedicated to this grape variety.
Other vines were planted between 1987 and 1988, representing 32% of the Merlot vineyard.
The rest was planted between 1998 and 1999. These vines are among the oldest and most fragile of the estate, bearing direct witness to the long agricultural history of these exceptional lands.
Today, 4,000 m² of land remain available for planting. Current discussions are oriented toward Chardonnay and Vermentino, in order to introduce white grape varieties that are well adapted to the warm climate of the Combe d’Arc.
In the past, this estate produced 55 hectolitres per hectare.
Today, production has been reduced by 30% in order to focus on high-quality grapes and limited wine production.
All vineyard work throughout the growing cycle is carried out by hand, from pruning to harvest, minimizing mechanical intervention as much as possible.
The estate is currently undergoing organic conversion.
We work with the constant concern of respecting and integrating harmoniously into this remarkably preserved natural site.
Like the Ardèche people: faithful at heart.
